William (Bill) Alfred Savage was created by Pat Mills and Jesus Blasco for ‘Invasion!’ in 2000 AD in February 1977. Mike first drew Savage in ‘Concorde’ in 2000 AD in April 1977 and in a further 18 of the original 51 issues.

After the invasion of a flooded Britain by the Volgans - a comic-creation based on the Russians of the USSR - Bill Savage sets out to avenge the death of his family and is recruited into the resistance by Lt. Peter Silk. After Silk’s death, Savage becomes the leader of the resistance, broadcasting illegally to the beleaguered British and carrying out a campaign of violence against the occupying Volgs.

In this unused title page an informer has revealed Savage’s hiding place - a ruined farmhouse. Attacked by not only Volg infantry but also a helicopter! - did he escape?
