Hellman of Hammer Force

Major Kurt Hellman a German tank commander, initially of  Hammer Force, was the first ever German hero to feature in a British comic.

This was in ACTION - a groundbreaking  weekly edited by Pat Mills - and then, when they amalgamated, in BATTLE. Most of the other stories in the comic were very  graphic in the violence they depicted and so were exceptional in a comic at the time. Hellman was less violent but achieved his ‘difference’ by being what was considered as a traditional enemy by British readers.

Hellman did occasionally fight the British but most of the time it was the Russians.  His main enemies, however, were various nasty Nazis he encountered.
